Ancient Kātyāyana SanskritDisputes Between Owners and Herdsmen
In fields, gardens, pastures, houses, and cattle-pens, Bṛhaspati allows the seizure and beating of animals that have entered. // K_664 //
Where the owner disputes the beating of animals of the lowest, highest, and middle classes, one should impose a fine there. // K_665 //
Before the crops have sprouted, one should make a strong enclosure. Animals that have acquired a taste for the sweet flavor are difficult to keep away. // K_666 //
One should make a cow pay a quarter of a paṇa, a buffalo two quarters. For goats, sheep, and calves, a fine of one quarter is declared. // K_667 //
