Ancient Kātyāyana SanskritNon-Payment of Wages
He who, having started a work, does not complete it, shall be made to do it by force; if he does not do it, he deserves punishment. // K_657 //
A carrier who causes a delay at the start of a journey shall be made to pay double the fee. // K_658 //
But he shall not be made to pay if the goods are stolen by thieves, or burnt, or carried away by water. // K_659 //
He who abandons a companion on the road who is tired or sick shall incur the first amercement, and for not taking care of him in the village for three days. // K_660 //
When the goods are obstructed or stolen on the road, he shall receive a fee proportional to the distance he has traveled. // K_661 //
He who, having hired elephants, horses, cattle, camels, and the like, does not return them after the work is done, shall be made to pay for them along with the hire fee. // K_662 //
He who, having rented a house, water-source, shop, and the like, does not return it to the owner, shall be made to pay for it along with the rent for as long as he holds it. // K_663 //
