    Vishnu Smriti 74

    On the aṣṭakā (अष्टका) days, having performed a śrāddha (श्राद्ध) with the rite for the gods performed first, with vegetables, meat, and cakes, and on the anvaṣṭakā (अन्वष्टका) days, having offered into the fire as on the aṣṭakā (अष्टका) days, with the rite for the gods performed first, he shall feed Brāhmaṇas for his mother, paternal grandmother, and paternal great-grandmother as before, and having honored them with gifts, he shall follow them and dismiss them. // Vi_74.1 //

    Then he shall make karṣūs (कर्षूs) (ritual trenches). // Vi_74.2 //

    At their base, having established a fire to the northeast, he shall perform the offering of piṇḍas (पिण्डs). // Vi_74.3 //

    At the base of three karṣūs (कर्षूs) for the men, and at the base of three karṣūs (कर्षूs) for the women. // Vi_74.4 //

    He shall fill the three karṣūs (कर्षूs) for the men with food and water. // Vi_74.5 //

    The three karṣūs (कर्षूs) for the women with food and milk. // Vi_74.6 //

    Each of the three karṣūs (कर्षूs) with curd, meat, and milk. // Vi_74.7 //

    Having filled them, he shall mutter, "May this be imperishable for you (masculine) and for you (feminine)." // Vi_74.8 //
