    raha gar koi ta-qayamat salamat

    Mirza Ghalib

Though one until the final judgment should remain, One day all die, O Great One, you remain.

For this heart, a love that sups on blood and tears Is decreed by the Lord of Gifts, may He remain.

In spite of foes, I'm martyred for my faith; A blessed fate! Let this devotion remain.

If mind can't grasp the meaning deep inside, Let the dazzling spectacle of forms remain.

On all existence, draw a final, fading line, But let the hand and heart of courage remain.

If heavens won't grant this weary heart its way, Let the soul-consuming fire of grief remain.

I do not heed their words, nor speak my own; Let this hard anguish of the soul remain.

A flood of trials, a torrent of devotion; My safety is my blame; my blame, my safety, shall remain.

No thought of safety, and no fear of blame; Let self-effacing ecstasy remain.

Let Ghalib, 'Victor,' by the heavens be undone; What cold indifference is this, O Great One, you remain.
