Tujh ko duzdida nigahi yeh sikha di kis ne

    Allama Iqbal

Who taught you this art of the stolen glance? Who taught you affection's first, subtle dance?

And from your eyes of azure blue What piercing wisdom filters through?

You look at them, then turn with bashful air, Then rise, or lie and fall asleep right there.

Your eye, a mirror, holds a wond'ring gleam? Your soul, illumined by a knowing beam?

You bat them with your paws, a charming show, A tease, or anger, or affection's glow?

Behave yourself, or from my lap you'll go! Drop my lapel-flower, and you'll feel a blow!

What deep search is this? What do you desire? Ah! Are you also set by this same fire?

This sense of Beauty is not man's alone, Deep in all things, a heart, it has its throne.

In the flask of Time, Love is the purest wine, The soul of the sun, the moon's own blood divine.

In every atom, its hidden throb is found, A light whose glimmer shines on all around.

At times a source of joy, at times a song of grief, A pearl, a teardrop, dew upon a leaf.
