    A Mountain and a Squirrel

A mountain told a squirrel, in a haughty decree, "If you had any shame, you'd go drown in the sea.

A tiny thing, with such conceit, what can one say? Such intellect and sense you put on full display!

By God, it's strange how worthless things can take a stand, And witless creatures pose as wisest in the land.

What is your standing when compared to my great might? The very earth is low before my towering height.

The majesty I hold, you never can embrace; Compare a mountain to a creature of your place!"

The squirrel, hearing this, replied, "Now mind your word! Such foolish, raw ideas are truly quite absurd.

That I'm not large like you is no disgrace to me; For you are not as small as I am, you can see.

In everything, the might of God is manifest; His wisdom makes some large, and small He makes the rest.

He made you great and mighty in this world so wide, And taught me how to climb a tree with nimble stride.

You cannot take a single step, for all your size; What virtue but your bigness does your form comprise?

If you are truly great, then show a skill like me, And try to crack this simple nut for all to see.

No single thing in this world is in vain; In Nature's great workshop, no creature is plain."
