Vishnu Smriti 83

Now, the paṅktipāvanas (पङ्क्तिपावनs) (purifiers of the row). // Vi_83.1 //

A Triṇāciketa (त्रिणाचिकेत) (one who has studied the Nachiketa section of the Veda three times). // Vi_83.2 //

A Pañcāgni (पञ्चाग्नि) (one who maintains five sacred fires). // Vi_83.3 //

A Jyeṣṭhasāmaga (ज्येष्ठसामग) (a singer of the Jyeshtha Sāman). // Vi_83.4 //

One who has mastered the Vedas. // Vi_83.5 //

One who has mastered even one of the ancillary Vedic texts. // Vi_83.6 //

One who has mastered the Purāṇas, Itihāsas, and grammar. // Vi_83.7 //

One who has mastered even one of the Dharmaśāstras. // Vi_83.8 //

One purified by visiting sacred bathing places. // Vi_83.9 //

One purified by sacrifice. // Vi_83.10 //

One purified by austerity. // Vi_83.11 //

One purified by truth. // Vi_83.12 //

One purified by sacred formulas. // Vi_83.13 //

One devoted to muttering the Gāyatrī mantra. // Vi_83.14 //

The descendant of one to whom a maiden was given in the Brāhma (ब्राह्म) form of marriage. // Vi_83.15 //

A Trisuparṇa (त्रिसुपर्ण) (one who has studied the Trisuparna section). // Vi_83.16 //

A son-in-law. // Vi_83.17 //

And a daughter's son is a worthy vessel. // Vi_83.18 //

And especially yogins (योगिन्s). // Vi_83.19 //

On this subject, there is a verse sung by the ancestors (pitṛgītā gāthā (पितृगीता गाथा)). // Vi_83.20 //

May that one be in our family who would feed a yogin (योगिन्), / A learned Brāhmaṇa, at a śrāddha (श्राद्ध) with effort, by which we may be satisfied. || Vi_83.21 ||
