Chapter 72
Ancient Viṣṇu SanskritVishnu Smriti 72
He shall abide by self-control (dama). // Vi_72.1 //
And dama is declared to be the control of the senses. // Vi_72.2 //
For one who is self-controlled, this world and the next are his. // Vi_72.3 //
No action of one who is not self-controlled prospers. // Vi_72.4 //
Self-control is the supreme purifier, self-control is the supreme good fortune; / By self-control one obtains everything, whatever one desires in one's mind. || Vi_72.5 ||
He who travels in a chariot yoked with five horses, with the mind as the driver, following the path of the Āryas, / If the horses do not carry away that chariot, then the enemies do not overcome him who has thus gone. || Vi_72.6 ||
Just as waters enter the ocean, which is ever being filled yet remains unmoved, / So he into whom all desires enter attains peace, not the desirer of desires.[^3] || Vi_72.7 ||
