Chapter 65
Ancient Viṣṇu SanskritVishnu Smriti 65
Now, therefore, having bathed well, with hands and feet well washed, and having rinsed his mouth, in a place for the worship of deities or on the ground, he shall worship the blessed Vāsudeva, who is without beginning or end. // Vi_65.1 //
Having performed the bestowal of life with the mantra "aśvinoḥ prāṇas tau te," having performed the invocation with the section beginning "yuñjate manaḥ," he shall perform a salutation with his knees, hands, and head. // Vi_65.2 //
With the three verses beginning "āpo hi ṣṭhā," he shall offer water for the hands (arghya). // Vi_65.3 //
With the four verses beginning "hiraṇyavarṇāḥ," he shall offer water for the feet (pādya). // Vi_65.4 //
With the verse "śaṃ na āpo dhanvanyāḥ," he shall offer water for rinsing the mouth (ācamanīya). // Vi_65.5 //
With the verse "idam āpaḥ pravahata," he shall offer water for bathing (snānīya). // Vi_65.6 //
With the verse "rathe akṣeṣu vṛṣabhasya vāje," he shall offer ointments and ornaments. // Vi_65.7 //
With the verse "yuvā suvāsāḥ," he shall offer a garment. // Vi_65.8 //
With the verse "puṣpāvatīḥ," he shall offer a flower. // Vi_65.9 //
With the verse "dhūr asi dhūrva," he shall offer incense. // Vi_65.10 //
With the verse "tejo 'si śukram," he shall offer a lamp. // Vi_65.11 //
With the verse "dadhikrāvṇaḥ," he shall offer a madhuparka (a mixture of honey, etc.). // Vi_65.12 //
With the eight verses beginning "hiraṇyagarbhaḥ," he shall offer a food offering (naivedya). // Vi_65.13 //
A chowrie, a fan, a mirror, an umbrella, a vehicle, and a seat, / All this he shall offer to the god with the Sāvitrī mantra alone. || Vi_65.14 ||
Having thus worshipped, he shall then mutter the Puruṣasūkta; / With that same hymn he shall offer clarified butter, if he desires the eternal state. || Vi_65.15 ||
