Ancient Kātyāyana SanskritUnstipulated Interest
He who, having taken a friendly loan, goes abroad without returning it, after one year, that money of his shall accrue interest. // K_502 //
He who, having taken a loan for a purpose, goes abroad without returning it when asked, after three months, that money of his shall accrue interest. // K_503 //
He who, though residing in his own country, does not pay when asked, one should make him pay unstipulated interest, even if he is unwilling. // K_504 //
A friendly gift does not accrue interest as long as it is not asked back. If it is not returned when demanded, it increases at five percent. // K_505 //
A deposit, the balance of interest, and a sale and purchase—if not returned when demanded, it increases at five percent. // K_506 //
He who, having taken merchandise, goes abroad without paying the price, after the passing of three seasons, that money shall accrue interest. // K_507 //
On leather, crops, liquor, and in gambling, on the price of merchandise, and always on bride-prices and on debts arising from suretyship, there shall be no interest. // K_508 //
