Vishnu Smriti 89

The month of Kārttika (कार्तिक) belongs to the deity Agni. // Vi_89.1 //

And Agni is the mouth of all the gods. // Vi_89.2 //

Therefore, he who bathes outside, is devoted to muttering the Gāyatrī mantra, and eats sacrificial food only once during the month of Kārttika (कार्तिक), is purified from the sin committed in a year. // Vi_89.3 //

He who bathes daily for the entire month of Kārttika (कार्तिक), with his senses subdued, / Muttering prayers, eating sacrificial food, and being self-controlled, is freed from all sins. || Vi_89.4 ||
