Chapter 14

Vishnu Smriti 14

Now, the ordeal of consecrated water (kośa). // Vi_14.1 //

Having worshipped fierce deities, he shall drink three handfuls of the water from their lustral bath. // Vi_14.2 //

Facing the installed deity, saying, "This was not done by me." // Vi_14.3 //

He upon whom, within two weeks, or even three weeks, A disease, a fire, the death of a kinsman, or a terror from the king should fall, || Vi_14.4 ||

One should know him to be impure, and pure in the reverse case. A righteous king shall honor a man who has been proven pure in an ordeal. || Vi_14.5 ||
