Chapter 36
Ancient Kātyāyana SanskritThe Procedure for the Ordeal of Water
For purification, one should make arrows with tips that are not of iron, and made of reed-shafts, and the archer should shoot them very firmly. // K_442 //
When the arrow is shot, the submersion should be done, and the going (of the retriever) should be simultaneous. Upon the going, the return should be done, and another man should enter the water. // K_443 //
If only the top of his head is visible, but not his ears or his nose, one should declare him pure who has entered the water. // K_444 //
He who, having submerged, bobs up and is seen by living beings, he must submerge there again at a spot marked by a sign of the place. // K_445 //
